Jarrod Bowen wows on BBC after ‘wonderful’ moment in West Ham United draw v Brentford
Henry Moeran was astonished by Jarrod Bowen’s “wonderful feet” in the build-up to Tomas Soucek’s equaliser for West Ham against Brentford on Saturday (28 September).
The Bees got off to another quick start as Bryan Mbeumo hit the back of the net after a matter of seconds, seeing Julen Lopetegui’s men going behind once again.
While the Irons still have just one victory to their name, they salvaged a point through Soucek at the GTECH Community Stadium and it seems Lopetegui has Bowen to thank for his side securing the 1-1 draw.
Speaking live via BBC Radio 5 Live on Saturday (28 September, 6:11pm), the commentator said: “Tomas Soucek’s second goal of the season owed much to the wonderful feet of Jarrod Bowen to create the opportunity.
“Soucek, eventually, with a low finish beyond Flekken.”
Jarrod Bowen crucial as West Ham United draw v Brentford
It is hardly surprising to see the 27-year-old winger step up when it matters most, even though he has only notched one goal and one assist in the league so far.
He recorded 16 goals and six assists in the Premier League last term, and while he did not actually grab a goal contribution against the Bees, he was just as important as always.
The Hammers are currently suffering from poor form, winning just five points from their first six games under new management, so Lopetegui needs players like Bowen to remain sharp.
As captain, there are few players who understand exactly what it means to play for the club, especially with so many new players coming through the London Stadium doors this summer.

Water is slowly rising around Lopetegui’s ankles, even after just six matches of the new campaign, and something needs to change, and it must change quickly.
If Bowen can rediscover his form from last season, the Hammers should have no issues rising up the Premier League table despite a slow start to the campaign.
