Jarrod Bowen could match West Ham record last achieved by Jermain Defoe vs Manchester United
Jarrod Bowen will be looking to cement his place in the history books when West Ham travel to Manchester United on Thursday.
Bowen was criticised in West Ham’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool, and he failed to drag Lucas Paqueta away as he argued with the referee at the London Stadium.
The 28-year-old will be looking to put that behind him when he leads the side against the Red Devils at Old Trafford on 4 December.
He can join legendary Premier League striker Jermain Defoe in an elite Hammers club, if he manages to get on the scoresheet in Manchester.

What record does Jermain Defoe hold for West Ham?
Defoe is one of the best forwards to ever play for West Ham, and Bowen could be in illustrious company after the full-time whistle.
The 43-year-old is the last man to score in three consecutive games against United, and he completed the feat in 2002.
Bowen is currently on a streak of scoring in his last two against Ruben Amorim’s side, and will join Defoe, if he can put the ball in the back of the net this time around.
When did Jarrod Bowen last score for West Ham?
Bowen is normally a reliable goalscorer and has gotten his side out of several sticky situations in the past few seasons.
However, Nuno Espirito Santo has not been able to rely on his star man anywhere near as much as previous managers could.
- Bowen notched 16 goals and six assists in the top-flight in the 2023-24 campaign
- He followed that up with 13 goals and nine assists last season
- Bowen has scored just once in Nuno’s tenure so far
The England star has not scored since September, when he notched the equaliser against Everton, in the new manager’s first game in charge.
He has gone seven league matches without a goal, despite taking 16 shots in that time, and he desperately needs to find his scoring form once again.
The Irons are currently sitting in 18th place, in the relegation zone, after Leeds beat Chelsea, and they need Bowen to fire them out of danger.
Whether he can, well, that is another matter entirely.
