Jamie O’Hara destroys ‘stupid’ Kalvin Phillips after West Ham United loss v Nottingham Forest

Jamie O’Hara has slammed Kalvin Phillips after the midfielder was sent off during the 2-0 defeat for West Ham against Nottingham Forest on 17 February.

The former Tottenham midfielder fumed, insisting Phillips must be unfit and looked off the pace throughout the game, and was adamant he should not go to the European Championships with England.

Phillips’ red card came from two mistimed tackles earning him yellows, a clear symptom of the lack of regular game time, but that is not enough of an excuse for West Ham.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [17 February, 17:17], O’Hara ranted: “He can’t go to the Euros. He looks like he’s unfit, he’s way off the pace and got sent off today. Stupid. Two yellow cards, mistiming tackles because he’s not been playing and he’s rusty.

“He’s miles off it. He can’t go to the Euros at the moment. He’s gone there to get playing, and actually, he’s making West Ham worse.”

Kalvin Phillips’ transfer has gone wrong already at West Ham

When the Manchester City midfielder arrived at the London Stadium, hopes were high that he would add the bit of quality needed to take them to the next level and give the Hammers that winning edge.

However, they have not won a game since his arrival, and with costly mistakes made almost every time he has played, the club may have been better off without him.

It has become clear that his lack of games at City has knocked him off the pace, and he is still recovering his fitness and sharpness, but that isn’t something Moyes or West Ham can afford to take time with.

Phillips arrived in east London amidst plenty of fanfare but is yet to make much of an impact.

If he wants to get into the England squad ahead of the Euros, Phillips will have to start turning in better performances and hope the Hammers can start winning games – with his influence now key – amid plenty of pressure building on Moyes and the managerial position adding to the drama.
