Gabby Agbonlahor slams ’embarrassing’ West Ham United star Michail Antonio live on talkSPORT

Gabby Agbonlahor has slammed Michail Antonio following the defeat to Brentford, claiming that the West Ham star is too focused on moaning on his podcast to put in a good performance.

The former Aston Villa striker claimed that the striker’s continued run without a goal won’t be helped by going on a podcast every week to complain about not scoring.

Antonio has currently gone 11 games without a goal in all competitions and prevented Said Benrahma from scoring a tap-in to put the Hammers 3-1 up by throwing himself in the way of the Algerian, as shared by West Ham Xtra on Twitter.

Agbonlahor was joined by Jamie O’Hara as the pair reacted to the full-time results live on talkSPORT [4 November, 17:43], when Agbonlahor ranted: “He was sliding in because he’s desperate for goals.

“He wants to talk about it on his podcast next weekend, it’s embarrassing,” said the former Villa man, before O’Hara then chipped in: “Embarrassing? Antonio’s embarrassing?”

Agbonlahor doubled down on his comments, continuing: “It’s embarrassing. A podcast every weekend while you’re not scoring, do you know what I mean?

“He’s talking on his podcast about, you know, ‘Maybe I just need to get back to scoring’, and that was exactly that moment in the game today, he slid in when I think it was Benrahma was there to tap it in.”

Error after error every week

Moyes’ decision to start Antonio seemed to finally have been justified in the first half, with the Hammers heaving into half-time 2-1 up and Antonino getting an assist for Jarrod Bowen’s goal, as well as dominating the defenders and winning most of his duels.

However, he quickly reverted to type in the second half and ultimately cost his side the game, with his desperation to finally score a goal after going 11 games without getting in the way of his better judgement.

Agbonlahor might be right about the podcast, and he has echoed what many Hammers fans feel about their striker. He will be speaking to Callum Wilson at some point this week complaining and getting laughed at for his lack of goals, but what does that do for anyone?

It doesn’t help his club, it can’t help his mentality, and Agbonlahor’s shout for him to focus on his game and stop moaning every week on the podcast may well be the right thing for Antonio to do.

In other West Ham news, Paul Merson was stunned by what happened in the game.
