Fullkrug amazes as teammate stinks — West Ham player ratings v Southampton

West Ham drew 1-1 against Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday, with Niclas Fullkrug starring at the London Stadium.

Simon Rusk’s side faced Graham Potter’s team on 19 April, with the visitors already confirmed to be relegated.

The Hammers were underwhelming in the opening 45 minutes, with the home crowd making their feeling known at half-time.

Jarrod Bowen changed the atmosphere around the London Stadium just after the break, scoring in the 47th minute, but Lesley Ugochukwu scored late on to secure a point for the Saints.

West Ham limp during first half v Southampton in Premier League

Alphonse Areola – 5

Areola had a few scares in the first half as Southampton hit the post, but the Frenchman hardly had anything to do after the break, apart from parrying a few shots and Ugochukwu’s strike at the end.

Vladimir Coufal – 5

Coufal didn’t let the Hammers feel Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s absence, contributing adequately in both defensive and attacking areas of the pitch.

Jean-Clair Todibo – 4

Todibo was underwhelming in the first half, but his performance improved after the break.

Max Kilman – 6

Kilman was the better of the centre-backs on the day, comfortable in possession and dominant at the back.

Emerson (Substituted for Oliver Scarles in the 80th minute) – 3

Emerson was the weak link in the Irons’ defence, weak at the back and wasteful in the final third.

Carlos Soler – 5

Soler was decent controlling the tempo of the game, but the Spanish midfielder wasn’t able to showcase much of his creativity up front.

James Ward-Prowse (Substituted for Konstantinos Mavropanos in the 86th minute) – 4

Ward-Prowse was at the heart of West Ham’s dominance in the second half, circulating possession admirably, but he made a few errors to give away the ball.

Fullkrug amazes at London Stadium

Jarrod Bowen (Substituted for Evan Ferguson in the 86th minute) – 8

Bowen opened the scoring for the Hammers, and Potter’s half-time talk had a positive effect on their attacking play.

Lucas Paqueta – 6

Paqueta, like the rest of his teammates, had a better second half, but the London Stadium would’ve wanted to see more from him.

Mohammed Kudus (Substituted for Luis Guilherme in the 75th minute) – 7

Kudus came to life after the break, threatening Southampton’s backline on multiple occasions.

Niclas Fullkrug (Substituted for Tomas Soucek in the 80th minute) – 9

Fullkrug stood out over the course of the 90 minutes, linking up play beautifully and putting in an almost perfect performance as a target man.
