Edson Alvarez stuns in ‘delicious’ moment for West Ham v Aston Villa

Stephen Warnock was wowed by Edson Alvarez for his impressive assist for Emerson Palmieri to rescue a point for West Ham against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Irons went 1-0 down after eight minutes of the game at Villa Park on 26 January, but Emerson levelled the score at 1-1 in the 70th minute.

The Hammers came away with another point which sees them go to 13th in the Premier League.

Speaking live on BBC Radio 5 Live (26 January, 18:07), Warnock said: “West Ham had an opportunity before and Emerson should have levelled up.

“This is all about the quality from Alvarez. It’s a delicious ball into the back post area.

“What a header from Emerson. Emi Martinez had no chance.”

West Ham draw with Aston Villa

Although Graham Potter will have been disappointed that his side went 1-0 down so early, being able to salvage a point is what you want to see after they’ve lacked the fight this season.

The ball from Alvarez into Emerson was one of perfection and it was met by the 30-year-old with great timing and precision to get the East London outfit back into the game.

The goal proved to be the boost Potter’s side needed to give them some momentum going forward and after a few chances to score again, there may be some disappointment that the Irons only got a point.

Nevertheless, it’s a good draw for the Irons as they get another point on the board and their ability to stay in the game and look strong in the final minutes rather than crumble surely shows positive signs about life under their new manager.

All eyes will now switch to the transfer window with much-needed signings on the cards.

In other West Ham news, the Irons have a transfer for a surprise defender on the cards.
