Don Goodman: West Ham ace Fabianski one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League

Don Goodman has hailed West Ham number one Lukasz Fabianski as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League as he shone versus Southampton on Sunday.

Fabianski, 36, pulled off several good saves in the 3-0 win over the Saints at the London Stadium, including a superb save at the start of the second half.

Speaking on Sky One’s live coverage of the match, former West Brom and Wolves striker Goodman lavished praise on the Poland international.

He said: “Fabianski shows all his quality.

“What a spring that is to his left, it’s a wonderful save. The way he pushes off, good strong hand.

“There’s no question in my mind he’s one of the best goalkeepers, right up there with the best in the Premier League.”

Fab Fabianski

You just cannot disagree with Goodman here – Fabianski is definitely among the best goalkeepers in the league.

We’d go as far to say that the former Arsenal and Swansea player is one of the most underrated goalkeepers in the league too because no one really talks about him.

Most of the talk will be about Kasper Schmeichel, Emiliano Martinez or Sam Johnstone this season but Fabianski deserves to be in the discussion with all of them.

He’s been incredible.

West Ham’s defence has been transformed under David Moyes with Angelo Ogbonna, Craig Dawson, Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena all looking imperious at times.

However, even the best centre-backs leak chances and that’s when you need a top goalkeeper to rely upon.

Southampton have some really dangerous attacking players in James Ward-Prowse, Danny Ings and Che Adams so Fabianski had to be on his toes on Sunday.

He dealt with them superbly.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are keen to sign this “underrated” striker who scored four goals in one game earlier this season.
