Don Goodman thrilled by Pablo Fornals at HT v Southampton

West Ham United welcomed Southampton to the London Stadium this afternoon knowing a win would guarantee European football.

The Irons didn’t start like that though, and Leicester going ahead against Spurs certainly helped the nerves of the squad and fans.

Pablo Fornals soon gave his side after that, slotting home the rebound from a Jarrod Bowen effort into an empty net.

Don Goodman was thrilled by the Spaniard, who had just missed an excellent chance to give his side the lead earlier on Sky One.

“Pablo Fornals is reacting,” he said.

“He responds really well, bearing in mind he just missed an opportunity. He keeps calm this time, hits it hard, hits it low, West Ham have their lead.

“Fabulous scenes here.”

Needed.

It was vitally important not to rely on others today.

Leicester winning made it much more comfortable in that opening half an hour, where the boys just didn’t get going at all against the Saints.

David Moyes will have been preparing some stern words given the number of chances Southampton had, but that is how quickly things can change in the Premier League.

10 minutes later, the Irons were already two goals to the good and cruising towards the Europa League next season, we can’t wait already.

Fornals’ name will go down in history, with his goals the two to send us back to the big time when nobody expected it to happen, not even us.
