David Moyes return mooted at West Ham United after loss v Chelsea

Justin Allen has already called for David Moyes to be reappointed after West Ham were defeated 3-0 by Chelsea on Saturday (21 September).

Julen Lopetegui’s side conceded after just four minutes, with Nicolas Jackson driving into the box unchallenged before slotting under Alphonse Areola, then adding a second at the London Stadium.

Cole Palmer notched another early in the second half, all but condemning the Hammers to their third defeat in five league matches under new management, having parted ways with Moyes this summer.

Taking to X on Saturday (21 September), Allen wrote: Bring back David Moyes… All is forgiven.”

David Moyes to return after West Ham United defeat v Chelsea?

Hammers fans seem to learn the hard way that the grass is not always greener on the other side, with Moyes reappointed after Manuel Pellegrini’s failed tenure at the London Stadium.

This saw the East London club lift their first European trophy in decades, beating Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final, with Moyes etching his name into West Ham history.

It is easy to reminisce, forgetting exactly how much criticism the Scot came under during his final season in charge of the Hammers, slated for his defensive style of play.

This is not to say Moyes’ style did not deserve criticism, because having only conceded fewer goals than Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United, something was clearly wrong.

However, Lopetegui has already implemented a much more positive attacking style of play. While this leaves them more open at the back, the attackers just need more time to work together and combine.

Fans need to move on from Moyes. He cannot just be the club’s saviour every time a new manager appointment fails to live up to expectations.

The club certainly do need a saviour right now, though, after being condemned to another defeat at the London Stadium. Something needs to change.
