Danny Ings magic wows Sky Sports in late West Ham United draw v Fulham

Danny Ings’ last-gasp equaliser for West Ham against Fulham was “magical”, Rob Jones said.

Covering the 1-1 draw live from Craven Cottage for Soccer Saturday, the Sky Sports reporters’ immediate reaction to the last-second goal was shared by Sky Sports on X (14 September).

Ings, who had only come on in the 82nd minute for Edson Alvarez, latched onto a byline cut-back from Jarrod Bowen and squeezed a shot past Bernd Leno to rescue a late point for Julen Lopetegui’s side.

Jones said: “West Ham have stolen a point right in the final minute of stoppage time, a magical moment for the substitute Danny Ings.”

Danny Ings proves to be saviour for Julen Lopetegui at West Ham

While the finish itself from Ings cannot exactly be described as “magical”, the fact that the Irons took a point from Craven Cottage despite being thoroughly second-best certainly can.

Ings being thrown on in the dying minutes was a move of desperation from Lopetegui, who was staring down the barrel of a third defeat in four Premier League games.

A woeful first-half showing from Alvarez and the rest of the Hammers’ side left them lucky to only be 1-0 down in West London, as Fulham’s wasteful finishing left the door ajar for late drama.

The Irons certainly exploited that at the end of a hot-tempered London derby, but Lopetegui will be hesitant to celebrate too much, given just how far off the pace his side were for most of the match.

Changes must come ahead of facing Chelsea next time out, and if the Spaniard was pondering who to start up front after Michail Antonio’s no-show, Ings has certainly given him something to think about.

In other West Ham news, the Irons are reported to be “pending” negotiations for a brand-new defensive signing on a free transfer.
