Clinton Morrison baffled by what West Ham United did amid ‘great’ moment in Luton clash

Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison was left baffled by West Ham United’s defending as Luton Town opened the scoring in their Premier League clash on Saturday (11 May).

In what was David Moyes’ farewell game at the London Stadium, it was the Hatters who hit the front through Albert Sambi Lokonga.

But Morrison, speaking on Soccer Saturday (11 May), was perplexed by the Hammers’ defending.

“It’s Luton who have been the better team, it’s Sambi Lokonga who wanted a penalty a couple of minutes ago,” Morrison said.

“It’s good build-up play, West Ham’s defending is all over the shop, it just goes over to Alfie Dougherty, he whips a great ball into the box, Sambi Lokonga makes the midfielder run, heads it past Areola into the corner.”

Thankfully for the Hammers it did not matter in the end, as they ran out 3-1 victors to give Moyes a winning send-off.

West Ham all at sea, it won’t impress David Moyes

It might have been David Moyes’ final home game in charge of West Ham at the London Stadium but don’t for one second think that the Scot will have accepted any drop in standards from his side this afternoon.

But he will have been disappointed with how easily the defence allowed the Hatters, who are fighting against relegation back to the Championship, to take the lead in his send-off game.

West Ham United manager David Moyes
David Moyes will be remembered fondly by West Ham supporters.

After what was a lively atmosphere at the London Stadium before kick-off, the goal took the sting out of the occasion a little bit and the mood was definitely a little quieter until they launched their second-half revival.

It was a moment that kind of reflected how things have been going in 2024 for West Ham, though. All a little too easy, all a little slack and things that really you never really associate with a Moyes team.

The goal was sort of indicative of the fact that it is the right time for Moyes to move on even if they did manage to fight back to send him off with a victory.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers’ stance of Wolves ace Max Kilman has been shared.
