Carlton Cole: West Ham drawing Man City knocked me off my perch

Carlton Cole claims that he was not happy to see his former side West Ham draw Manchester City in the next round of the Carabao Cup.

Having won away to Manchester United, Cole was on cloud nine and impressed with the way the Hammers went on about their business.

However, the draw for the next round took place after the game, pitting the London club against the defending Carabao Cup and Premier League champions.

Discussing this development after the game, Cole said on Sky Sports, “It knocked me off my perch as I was enjoying this result.

“It’s going to be a hard game. West Ham may be at home but wherever Man City go they make it their home.”

Unlucky

After dealing with Manchester United in the first round they played in the competition, they now have to take on Manchester City, who are widely recognised as one of the best in the world.

It’s been a while since the Hammers went on a decent cup run and the players and fans would’ve certainly thought that it was possible after an impressive win at Old Trafford.

However, on looking at the draw, the hopes of many would have shattered.

The Citizens have won this tournament the highest number of times and have gone on a phenomenal run in the past few seasons so beating them is going to require something special.

Looking at the side David Moyes fielded, the league cup is certainly not too high on the list of his priorities this season so he may not be readying his best players ahead of the Man City clash.

Hopefully, Pep Guardiola also plays a weakened team as he did on Wednesday night as that will give the Hammers an outside chance of causing another upset.
