Brian Dear predicts West Ham stalemate v Newcastle

West Ham and Newcastle are set to share the spoils on Sunday in the Premier League, according to former Hammers striker Brian Dear.

Dear, who once scored five goals in 20 minutes for West Ham, does not see his former side beating Steve Bruce’s men on the opening weekend.

He’s praised David Moyes for his efforts and despite not seeing the Hammers picking up maximum points on the day, he reckons it will be a good result for them.

Speaking to Yellow Sport, he predicted a 1-1 scoreline and said, “I think it will be a tight game. They are under considerable pressure from their own supporters following years of under-achievement.

“We can’t be complacent and must remember that they did the double over us last season.

“But we have advanced under David Moyes and should go there confident of getting a positive result. It will be tough, but a point wouldn’t be the worst outcome from a challenging opening day fixture.”

There for the taking

Newcastle are once again set to be in the dog fight for relegation this season so we need to do everything we can to pick up maximum points from this game.

Their transfer window has been far from impressive, much like ours, and on paper, we’re definitely the better team with a better manager in charge of the squad.

The Magpies haven’t been convincing at home over the past few seasons and they have faced plenty of off the field issues with regards to the ownership and the stadium.

We’ve got to capitalise on these things and after an impressive pre-season campaign, there are no excuses not to go out on the front foot and look to seize the initiative from the first minute.

The likes of Said Benrahma, Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals have looked impressive recently and we expect them to wreak havoc in the Newcastle defence on Sunday.
