Bowen shines, Diop disappoints – West Ham player ratings v Chelsea

Arthur Masuaku’s late strike saw West Ham register an unlikely 3-2 win over Chelsea on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League.

Having gone down twice, David Moyes’ men showed incredible resolve to get back into the game.

Jarrod Bowen, Manuel Lanzini and Masuaku were the goal scorers for the hosts while Thiago Silva and Mason Mount scored for the visitors.

Here’s how West Ham Zone rated the Hammers players at the London Stadium:

Lukasz Fabianski 6

Had a good game despite conceding two goals. Made a total of five saves on the afternoon and could have done better for Chelsea’s second goal.

Vladimir Coufal 7

Played as a right wing-back and provided much-needed offensive threat. Would have got an assist on another day and he can be happy with his performance.

Craig Dawson 7

Was the best of the West Ham central defenders on the day and is doing well to replace Angelo Ogbonna in the back line.

Kurt Zouma 5

Not an occasion to remember against his former side. He didn’t seem assured without the ball and had a small part to play in both goals. Also suffered an injury and had to be withdrawn in the second half.

Issa Diop 3

Undoubtedly the Hammers’ worst players on the night. Playing in an unfamiliar position as a left-sided centre-back in a back three, he struggled to get his act together. Labelled “fantastic” by David Gold recently, his performance here was anything but.

West Ham

Ben Johnson 3

Much like Diop, he had a bad outing as well. Completed just six of his attempted 12 passes and failed to even find the target with his four crosses. A forgettable game for the youngster.

Tomas Soucek 6

Balanced his defensive and attacking roles perfectly and never left his side vulnerable without the ball. One of his best performances of the season.

Declan Rice 5

Not an ideal outing, given the high bar he has set for himself. Was dispossessed quite a few times in midfield which led to the Blues throwing bodies forward.

Jarrod Bowen 8

Definitely the man of the match for his tireless exploits from the opening whistle. Scored an important goal and had the chance to bag another at the end, but failed to make up the ground to put it into the back of the net.

Manuel Lanzini 7

Held his nerve while taking the penalty and was sharp throughout the game. After Bowen, he was their next best performer.

Michail Antonio 7

Did not return to goal-scoring ways and that’s all he could’ve asked for after a barren patch. However, he still put in a good performance and was always there for the Hammers players to play the out ball.
