Ben Foster blown away by Alphonse Areola footage from West Ham United v Manchester City
West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola made a stunning save against Manchester City and that impressed former Manchester United and West Brom keeper Ben Foster.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the ex Premier League stopper analysed the footage of Areola denying Kevin de Bruyne.
The Hammers ended up losing 3-1 but it could’ve been a bigger margin had they not had someone as competent in goal
Foster said at 0:44: “Areola in goal. Kevin de Bruyne, being an absolute magician. Disguising the life out of it and nearly putting it into the near post. Worldie of a save.
“First of all I love the fact that Areola is trying to be really aggressive. When you’ve got Kevin de Bruyne running onto the ball like that, pre-empting that ball getting whipped across the far post, the fact that he’s still able to get himself back and make the save is incredible.
“It’s a magnificent save,” added David Watson.
Alphonse Areola has been stellar for West Ham
Areola has been nothing short of spectacular for the Hammers, showcasing his goalkeeping prowess with a series of impressive performances, highlighted by his stunning save against De Bruyne.
His ability to make critical interventions in high-pressure situations not only prevents goals but also boosts team morale.
The Frenchman’s agility, positioning and reflexes have been key, often turning seemingly certain goals into mere highlights of his skill.
His confidence in handling the ball and commanding his box adds a layer of security to West Ham’s defence.
Julen Lopetegui may just be the right man to help take his game to the next level.
It remains to be seen how he progresses under the new manager but there’s certainly hope that he could be among the players of the season.
In other West Ham news, ExWHUemployee has claimed that the Hammers want to sign a Champions League winner on a free transfer despite the window closing.
