BBC Sport pundits clash live on air over incident in West Ham United v Brentford

BBC Sport pundits Glenn Murray and Fara Williams clashed over an incident in the match between West Ham and Brentford live on air.

The duo were in discussion over a chance missed by Michail Antonio in the first half of the clash on Saturday (4 November).

The Bees won the Premier League meeting at the Gtech Community Stadium 3-2, having been trailing 2-1 at half-time.

“The ball in from Jarrod Bowen just needs to be passed into an empty net, and I don’t know what’s happened with Said Benrahma and Antonio,” Williams said live on BBC Final Score (3.43pm, 4 November). “I actually don’t know who should have come onto it and took it.

Murray responded: “I think Benrahma should back off, stay on the wing and Antonio should tap it in,” with Williams replying: “Do you think? See I think Benrahma is coming onto it with his right foot and can just pass it in.” Murray responded: “I’m just in the strikers’ union,” with Williams replying: “Of course you are.”

Huge moment

It was a huge moment in the clash, with the Hammers having a glorious chance to extend their 2-1 lead to 3-1. But it wasn’t meant to be given the mix-up between Antonio and Benrahma, with David Moyes’s side going on to rue that massive miss.

Benrahma perhaps has every right to be annoyed with his teammate after the incident, with attackers Bowen and Mohammed Kudus having linked up well to create the opportunity in the first place.

Antonio, however, may just point to the fact that he is in the team to score goals, even if he was ultimately unsuccessful this time around.

The Jamaican international was keen to get on the scoresheet after assisting Kudus earlier on, with Bowen also scoring for the visitors.

But in the end they fell short of any points, with Neal Maupay, a Konstantinos Mavropanos own goal and Nathan Collins securing all three points for the hosts.

In other West Ham news, Hammers scouts are in action already with a new South American transfer on the cards in January.
