BBC Sport pundit shares David Moyes surprise after what happened before West Ham United v Luton

Paul Robinson has been left surprised by the reception as David Moyes emerged ahead of West Ham v Luton Town at the London Stadium on Saturday (11 May).

The Scot is to part ways with the Hammers at the end of the campaign, with Julen Lopetegui set to take over, with the Luton clash marking his final home game in charge.

Fans could be seen posing with the manager at pitch-side ahead of the game, but Robinson expected a grander farewell for the man who led West Ham to their first European title in decades.

Speaking live via BBC Radio 5 Live on Saturday (11 May, 3:05pm), Robinson said: “With the career David Moyes has had, he will be looked back upon as one of the greatest managers of his time.

“I was surprised there wasn’t more of a send-off before the game. If you didn’t know the manager was going, you wouldn’t know!”

Moyes did at least manage to sign off with a 3-1 victory on his final home game.

West Ham United show little signs of David Moyes send-off

It is quite disappointing to hear there was a lack of thanks and respect paid towards the current manager before he ends his four-year spell in charge at the London Stadium.

Moyes has created so many special memories for the Hammers during his second spell at the club, and the pressure he has been under this season should not tarnish his achievements.

The Irons have been able to compete in Europe for the last three seasons, thanks to Moyes, and can forever boast the Europa Conference League title after beating Fiorentina in the final.

Some fans are already sceptical about the appointment of Lopetegui ahead of the 2024/25 season while many have slammed Tim Steidten for the whole situation.

David Moyes will be remembered fondly by West Ham supporters.

It is well known that Moyes and Steidten do not have the best relationship, with the latter reportedly being banned from the team’s dressing room and training ground, and many are unhappy with how Lopetegui has been approached.

The respect and love that the Scot has earned during his stay at the London Stadium has just not been evident, even despite the club confirming that he would be stepping away.
