BBC pundit stunned by ‘dangerous’ moment in West Ham v Crystal Palace
Konstantinos Mavropanos received his marching orders for West Ham in their defeat to Crystal Palace with Rob Green shocked by his “dangerous” challenge while already on a yellow card.
West Ham fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace with Mavropanos curtailing any hopes of getting back into the game with a silly challenge in the second half which saw him pick up a red card.
Jean Mateta received a boot to the face from Mavropanos, who was already on a yellow card with Green slamming the Greek defender for the incident.
Commentating via the USA Network feed [18 January], Green said: “Kick in the face, it’s reckless, dangerous. [Mavropanos] has a mistake in him every game. It was a ball he was never going to win.”
It was yet another poor performance from Mavropanos who has struggled for any form at the London Stadium.
Mavropanos woes continue for West Ham
Ultimately, it was his needless sending-off which left the Irons fighting an uphill battle having already found themselves one goal down at the time of the incident.
It isn’t the first time that the Greek defender has made an error, and it’s unlikely to be the last with many fans rightfully pointing out that Mavropanos is simply not up to the standard required for Premier League football.
As Green said, he is a mistake waiting to happen and if the Hammers are to have any hopes of reviving the dismal season that was started by Julen Lopetegui, axing Mavropanos has to be the first move.

Of course, Graham Potter won’t have much choice when it comes to that for their next encounter, with a one-match suspension looming.
Another dire performance from him has perhaps amplified the need for West Ham to sign a central defender this winter if they are to progress.
