Andy Gray doesn’t hold back on player verdict after West Ham United win v Ipswich, ‘Terrible’
Andy Gray slammed Arijanet Muric over a “terrible” moment as West Ham United defeated Ipswich Town on Saturday (5 October).
Speaking on beIN SPORTS 1 (5 October, 5:10pm), Gray couldn’t believe what he was seeing as Ipswich keeper Muric failed to clear before Bowen pinched his pocket to make it 3-1 to the Irons.
Muric had tried to bring a hooked backpass from Ben Johnson – who left the London Stadium in the summer – under control rather than clearing his lines, and paid the ultimate price in Ipswich’s 4-1 defeat.
Gray said: “No goalkeeper – no, no. It’s terrible. It’s a shocker. Put your boot through it.”
Ipswich Town aid West Ham to pressure-easing victory
With the Hammers already well on top and leading 2-1 on the scoreline, the last thing Ipswich needed was for Muric to present Bowen with a gift-wrapped goal to make it three and all-but seal the points.
Johnson’s involvement in particular will have delighted the home fans at the London Stadium, having turned down new contract opportunities with the Irons to pursue his free transfer to Ipswich.

Regardless, Julen Lopetegui will be glad to see his side respond to their recent results with a dominant victory on home soil – especially given it’ll ease the questions over his job security in East London.
Michail Antonio, Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta all joined Bowen on the scoresheet – each of whom have been under significant pressure themselves – and will also be glad to have contributed towards the win.
It’s the kind of result to get a season back on track for club, coach and players alike, but the onus will now be on the Hammers to make sure they follow it up with three more points next time around.
In other West Ham news, Gray was much more impressed with another goal the Irons scored in their 4-1 win over the Tractor Boys.
