All 13 words Alan Shearer said about Lucas Paqueta red card in West Ham vs Liverpool, Micah Richards agrees

Alan Shearer was left raging at Lucas Paqueta after the West Ham star talked himself into yet another suspension in the Premier League.

Liverpool ended West Ham’s unbeaten streak in the Premier League with a 2-0 defeat at the London Stadium on 30 November.

Paqueta saw red against Arne Slot’s side after receiving two yellow cards for dissent against the current Premier League title holders.

It all came from an argument with referee Darren England over a decision to award a foul against his side with just six minutes left on the clock.

Despite being warned, Paqueta embarrassed himself.

Lucas Paqueta criticised for his “silly” decision

Paqueta took to X after the game in response to commentary from former West Ham goalkeeper Sky Sports summariser Rob Green, who deemed the red card “ridiculous behaviour”.

The midfielder explained that this actually reflected everything he’s had to endure, while being eventually cleared of spot-fixing charges by an independent regulatory commission.

Micah Richards has sympathised with his frustration but mentions that the midfielder must do better for his teammates.

“To be booked twice for dissent. He’s totally right, and he deserves more support in his opinion, but one thing you can’t do is let your teammates down for dissent,” he said on Match of the Day on 30 November.

“We know how good a player he is. We know how much we’ve talked about him in the past. He can really make a difference for this team. To get sent off for this, yes, it’s frustrating, you can tell.

“To have that over his head for so long, and potentially he could’ve left West Ham during that time, you can see he’s frustrated. But when you put on the shirt, and you’re there with your teammates, you have to give everything, and I think that was just a silly decision.”

This comes after Paqueta was suspended in West Ham’s recent 2-2 draw to Bournemouth after picking up five yellow cards already this season.

As a result, Shearer was far from happy with Paqueta, who has to own up to the situation himself.

“And he’s just come back from a ban for five yellow cards. Madness,” he added.

Either way, the midfield maestro’s absence will be a huge hit for the Hammers.

How did Lucas Paqueta perform against Liverpool?

Outside the red card, Paqueta’s performance against Liverpool was one he, along with the fans, will likely want to forget.

His poor performance reflects the game as a whole, which was certainly not one of Nuno Espirito Santo’s finest moments.

As well as failing to create a single big chance, the Hammers registered zero efforts on target despite taking seven shots, according to Sofascore

It was a disappointing performance for a side that had begun climbing out of the relegation mess they had created for themselves.

Thankfully for Nuno, Leeds United and Burnley losing means West Ham managed to cling onto 17th position in the Premier League.

But after a difficult defeat against Liverpool, Nuno will need to issue a response against Manchester United on Thursday, without Paqueta.
