A winner has been named in the West Ham and Wolves transfer race to sign Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott, according to Six Foot Two.

The reliable London Stadium insiders claim [18 July] that the Hammers have lost out to their Premier League counterparts who will be signing the 19-year-old.

Two Wolves bids of around £20million have been turned down but there's a feeling that £25million will seal the deal for them.

No point

It's good that the Hammers are not paying that kind of money for a teenager not proven outside the Championship.

It's evident, given that that they've not yet tabled a bid for him, that they are not willing to go all out to secure the player likened to Jack Grealish.

David Moyes will be looking at one or perhaps two midfielders this summer after the departure of Declan Rice but he will not be signing Scott.

It remains to be seen if Joao Palhinha from Fulham is high up on his priority list as they need someone in that profile to replace the Englishman.

He will be ideal if they manage to bring in another ball player alongside him and that will see Lucas Paqueta also playing with more freedom.

The Hammers need to prove that they're canny in the transfer window and need to start making some quick moves sooner rather than later.
