When will Edson Alvarez be thrown back into West Ham's matchday squad?
Edson Alvarez is back in contention to play for West Ham United.
The midfielder had several opportunities to leave the Hammers in the summer, but for one reason or another, he couldn't secure a move.
The Mexican international had offers from FC Koln, Ajax, clubs in Saudi Arabia and more.
There were reports suggesting that West Ham turned down certain offers due to clubs not meeting their valuation of Alvarez.
The 28-year-old has only featured once under Nuno Espirito Santo this campaign, starting in the first game of the season against Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup.
Alvarez has not been seen in any other matchday squads since, but with the player now stuck in E20, when will Nuno count on him again?
When is Edson Alvarez 'expected' to return for West Ham?
West Ham hosted a behind-closed-doors friendly at Rush Green against Wycombe Wanderers this week, emerging as 2-0 victors thanks to goals from Joel Piroe and the returning Tomas Soucek.
Nuno gave opportunities to several youngsters in the match, and used the game as a chance to keep other senior players sharp.
Alvarez came on in the second half, gaining his first minutes in a West Ham shirt since 8 August.
According to Record, it's understood that the Mexican will regain "prominence" with the Irons week by week.
He is expected to get his first minutes in the Championship during West Ham's next game against QPR.
Nuno is said to be counting on the defensive midfielder and is ready to welcome him back into the matchday squad immediately.
Who would Alvarez replace?
Nuno's midfield is packed full of talent right now, with the likes of Arne Engels and Divine Mukasa shining.
Mohamadou Kante continues to perform for the Irons, though he is set to miss the next three league games after picking up a straight red card in the Dockers Derby.
Soungoutou Magassa is in a similar boat to Alvarez, after being unable to leave the London Stadium in the summer.
If Alvarez were to come in for anyone, he could replace Mukasa to add extra balance in the middle of the park.
His problem is that with Soucek returning, Nuno may see Alvarez as a rotational option more than anything else.
