Edson Alvarez is pushing for a move away from West Ham this summer as Graham Potter's midfield nightmares continue.

Alvarez has become one of the Hammers' best midfielders in recent years and helped them win the Europa Conference League.

However, his antics in recent weeks have left supporters furious, and Alvarez could now leave West Ham on a sour note.

It's a huge shame for both parties, because players and supporters alike have praised his commitment to West Ham in recent years.

Coufal once called Alvarez 'very committed'

The Hammers midfield has been completely ripped to shreds, with Carlos Soler returning to PSG, Alvarez pushing to leave, and Guido Rodriguez looking very poor.

Potter has to take the blame for West Ham's 3-0 defeat to Sunderland; however, he hasn't been helped out by his own players.

With Alvarez pushing to leave, the West Ham midfield has been left damaged by the Mexican.

When the 27-year-old signed for the club in 2023, former Irons defender Vladimir Coufal was full of praise for him.

“Edson is a very good guy, settled in very well, he’s a good character in the changing room and very committed,” said Coufal.

“You can see it in the sessions, he suits our changing room. We sold Declan and lost a captain, but I don’t think we are weaker.

"We did a really good job getting players, and the team has changed a lot since I signed for the club."

  • Coufal played 180 games for West Ham and provided 19 assists
  • Alvarez played 28 games and managed one assist last season
  • Potter wanted at least two new midfielders before any exits

“After winning the Conference League, we gained a lot of confidence. Now we are playing like we feel bigger, with confidence, we trust each other, our process, our football. We are keeping together. It is bringing the fruits and bringing the points."

Potter needs investment after silly Alvarez decision

Alvarez's decision to force a move has totally backfired and is silly to say the least.

Nevertheless, it has left Potter with a crisis in midfield.

West Ham had been hoping to sign Southampton's Mateus Fernandes for £40million, but their attempts have so far failed.

The Hammers also missed out on the signing of Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, who looks set for a move to Nottingham Forest.

With their transfer targets seemingly out of reach, Irons supporters will be wondering where they go from here.
