The Hammers have been strong in pre-season, and got their competitive action off to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Portsmouth in the League Cup.
Burnley, on the other hand, lost a number of their pre-season matches, and required penalties to scrape past Notts County in the League Cup.
So, it's likely that West Ham will start as favourites for the win on Sunday, in what is sure to be a cracking game to start the new term.

West Ham and Burnley have been contesting on and off battles in recent years, with the Clarets yo-yoing back and forth between the Premier League and Championship.
It was, however, the Hammers who did the double over this weekend's opposition in the Premier League last term, winning 2-0 and 3-2 respectively.
In fact, Burnley haven't beaten West Ham in any of their last eight competitive meetings, with the Irons winning five of those.
The last time Burnley emerged victorious over the Hammers was in July 2020, when Jay Rodriguez scored in a 1-0 away win for the Lancashire outfit.
So, West Ham certainly seem to have Burnley's number as of late, and an opening weekend win at Turf Moor would send a strong message to the rest of the Championship.
