Matthew Upson was stunned as Diogo Dalot missed an open goal for Manchester United against West Ham at the London Stadium on 27 October.

The Portugal international found himself with the easiest chance possible to find the back of the net as Lukasz Fabianski was completely out of position.

However, in quite an astonishing manner, the Manchester United right-back put the ball over the bar and failed to open the scoring.

Reacting to the footage, Upson, a BBC pundit, said on the Premier League world feed on 27 October at 2:32pm: "It's getting ridiculous now. Unbelievable stuff. How's that not into the back of the net."

West Ham were lucky to not concede in the first half against Manchester United

Dalot's inexplicable miss spared both the Hammers and goalkeeper Fabianski from further scrutiny during a first half where they struggled against Manchester United.

West Ham's performance up to that point had been lacklustre, with Fabianski's positioning for Dalot's chance epitomising the team's defensive vulnerabilities.

Had the defender scored, it would have not only given Manchester United a deserved lead but also likely deflated the hosts' morale significantly.

Instead, the miss kept the game scoreless, allowing the Hammers to regroup during the break.

This moment highlighted the ongoing challenges for Julen Lopetegui, who, despite a strong summer recruitment, faces the task of solidifying a team identity and defensive solidity.

There are a few positives the Hammers fans could've taken from this game and hopefully, there is a quick change in fortune for the team.
