Juventus winger Filip Kostic is open to joining West Ham before the transfer window closes, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian outlet reported on its website Thursday [31 August] that West Ham are the clear frontrunners for the Serbia international, who's "given the OK to the transfer".

However, it is claimed that United may have to sell a player first if they are to launch a bid for Kostic ahead of the 11pm deadline on 1 September.

Strength in depth

West Ham missed out on signing Kostic 12 months ago when he instead opted to Juve from Eintracht Frankfurt in a reported €16million deal.

Despite assisting eight goals and scoring three more in 37 Serie A appearances last season, Juve appear ready to cash in on the 30-year-old.

West Ham already have options out on the left-hand side, but Kostic will provide some squad depth and potentially allow others to shift into a central position, where David Moyes has fewer options.

Moyes is clearly a big fan of the former Hamburg player, but the Irons must act quickly if they are to finalise a deal before the window shuts.

This is not exactly a transfer Hammers fans have been crying out for, yet Moyes has showed numerous times that his judgement should be trusted.

If Kostic can be signed for a reasonable fee - or perhaps even on an initial loan - then it will only make United's squad even stronger.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have reportedly matched Liverpool's offer for one of their targets.
