West Ham United news as recall clause triggered early for Kamarai Swyer

West Ham youngster Kamarai Swyer has been recalled from his season-long loan six months early, confirmed by Crawley Town.

The League Two club reported via its official website [15 January] that Swyer would return to London Stadium this month after making 11 appearances for Crawley, thanking the 21-year-old for his contributions.

The young midfielder played a vital role in Crawley's successful EFL Trophy group stage, helping the Red Devils to top Southern Group B ahead of Charlton, Sutton United and Aston Villa Academy.

The youngster only managed six league appearances under Scott Lindsey, totalling just 43 minutes across those matches but making the matchday squad on 21 occasions. He gained much more experience in the cup competition, playing four full-90 minute matches.

Home-grown talent

Having been recalled from his loan spell at Crawley six months early, David Moyes could have the 21-year-old at his disposal to add more home-grown talents to his senior squad.

Allowing Conor Coventry to leave on a permanent deal to Charlton, the Scot is lacking home-grown talents in the squad that could hinder Danny Ings and Ben Johnson from leaving the club this January.

His lack of men's football will be a worry, with just one West Ham appearance to his name, but Moyes could just use him to fill a much-needed spot in his squad, which could lead to funds opening up with the departures of two first-team players.

The London club will be very aware of Swyer's talents, with almost a century of appearances throughout the different youth levels at West Ham. With 29 matches for the Under 18s, 32 matches for the Under 23s and 32 matches for the Academy, the 21-year-old is an impressive prospect.

The attacking midfielder has racked up 19 goals in these 93 appearances, even bagging a goal and an assist on loan with Crawley in their 3-2 victory over the Villa youth team.
