West Ham are likely to pursue on-loan Wolves defender Ryan Giles if they sanction a sale this summer, according to The Mirror.

Giles is on a season-long loan from Wolves, and his performances at left-back have been a major factor in Boro’s rise up the Championship table under Michael Carrick.

According to the Mirror [9 March, page 56], the Teesside club hope to make the move permanent this summer, but any deal hinges on Middlesbrough playing Premier League football next season.

However, if Wolves do sanction a sale then West Ham are likely to pounce but face competition from Leicester City for Giles' signature.

Decent move

Giles has enjoyed a stunning campaign in Middlesbrough colours, going on to feature in 35 Championship games, and recording 9 assists from left wing-back under Carrick's tutelage.

Such form means the player could well be ready for Premier League football next season, and Giles represents a decent move for the Hammers but only if Wolves are willing sellers.

West Ham

Wolves, however, do have some quality in that position currently under Julen Lopetegui and the Midlands club may be tempted to recoup some decent cash for the defender, and if so, the Hammers should at least test the waters.

The 23-year-old has recorded the most assists of any Championship player this season, two more than the next best and that means a lot of eyes may be on Giles this summer.

With Aaron Cresswell facing an uncertain future in East London, the Hammers may already have located an ideal replacement.
