West Ham teen Preston Fearon may have just done something never seen before
Preston Fearon had a night to remember for West Ham United's Under-21s against Burnley on Friday.
The Hammers' youngsters ran out 3-1 victors over the Clarets' gems at Rush Green in Premier League 2.
It represented a second win of the season for the U21s side, with West Ham three goals to the good by the break.
All any academy player wants to do when representing the youth teams is to leave a lasting impression.
You never now who might be watching, and with so many cameras and social media everywhere nowadays you can easily catch the eye.
And 19-year-old Fearon did so in sensational fashion, doing something that perhaps has never been done.
Preston Fearon completes remarkable feat in West Ham U21s win
The Hammers were already leading through Riley Hargan's opener before Fearon took centre stage in quite remarable fashion.
The teenager scored twice, which in itself is obviously not out of the ordinary.
But what was out of the ordinary is that both of Fearon's goals came via strikes from inside his own half!
Fearon's first caught visiting goalkeeper Lewis Forshaw off guard, with an effort that majestically used the swirling winds to his advantage, with his team-mates mobbing him in celebration.
Incredibly, Fearon repeated the feat before half-time, lobbing Forshaw again and leaving those watching in utter disbelief.
It is such a rare feat for a player to score inside their own half one, to do so twice is barely thinkable. It was some night for Fearon.
What did Preston Fearon say about his two West Ham U21 goals?
As you can imagine, Fearon was all smiles after a night he will never forget.
West Ham's official website conducted an interview with the youngster after the game to ask for his thoughts on his achievement.
As you can imagine, Fearon was absolutely buzzing and talked through what was going through his head.
“I’ve tried shooting from there in two games before, but it didn’t come off," he said.
“The wind helped a lot and I just saw the goalkeeper off his line.
"I decided to go for it the first time, and the second time I looked and thought I shouldn't do it again, but I did, and it came off! I don’t know which one I enjoyed more, to be fair.”
I think we can all agree that it was absolutely worth going for it again, well done Preston Fearon.
