West Ham star Crysencio Summerville gives Ronald Koeman no choice after Netherlands win

Published on

West Ham United star Crysencio Summerville once again made his impact felt for the Netherlands at the World Cup.

Ronald Koeman's side knew that victory over Tunisia in the early hours of Friday morning would land them top spot in Group F.

The Dutch found themselves two goals up inside seven minutes in Kansas City through an Ellyes Skhiri own goal and a Brian Brobbey tap-in.

Hazem Mastouri pulled one back less than 10 minutes into the second half to make things interesting, before Jan Paul van Hecke sealed a 3-1 win just after the hour.

Summerville was again named among the substitutes before being introduced in the second half.

And the West Ham ace left his talking for the field as he made an instant impact at Gillette Stadium.

Summerville started the Netherlands' 2-2 draw with Japan, marking his tournament debut with a goal in that entertaining game.

He then scored and assisted as a half-time substitute in the 2-2 draw with Japan.

Koeman opted to keep Summerville among his back-up options against Tunisia.

But Summerville took no time at all to show what he can do once again when brought on after 72 minutes.

The 24-year-old, within seconds of his introduction, created a move down the right that almost led to a goal for Oranje.

The Dutch fans were instantly inspired by that, with Koeman surely now realising he has no choice but to start Summerville in the last 32.

While he is thriving at the World Cup, however, West Ham fans unfortunately have little to get excited over.

Summerville's latest showing coincides with inevitable exit news

This summer has already been dominated by talk of big-name exits from the London Stadium.

That is entirely understandable on the back of relegation from the Premier League last season.

Jarrod Bowen may yet stay in a major boost for Nuno Espirito Santo, but Mateus Fernandes and Summerville will almost certainly be sold.

Around the time Summerville was making his third World Cup appearance on Friday morning, a fresh report emerged suggesting Manchester United have cleared a hurdle in signing the winger.

Whether it is to Man United, another Premier League club or abroad, it is inevitable Summerville is on his way out of East London.

For now, though, fans can at least take pride in seeing a player represent West Ham in style on the biggest stage of them all - and drive up his valuation in the process.
