West Ham were defeated 3-2 at home to Southampton on Saturday.

Disaster struck early when Southampton opened the scoring just two minutes into the game through Kuryu Matsuki.

James Bree would double the visitors' lead just nine minutes later, leaving Nuno Espirito Santo's side with it all to do.

Kyle Walker-Peters would help his side back into the game, smashing the ball into the top corner after 24 minutes, but Lewis Dobbin would restore the two-goal cushion 10 minutes later.

The second half would not quite be as exciting, with only Tomas Soucek's late consolation being a highlight.

And ultimately it was the Hammers heading home without any points.

Divine Mukasa let down by West Ham teammates

The decision to take Divine Mukasa off the pitch was incredibly odd as the midfielder was one of the Irons' best players.

The Englishman was constantly looking to make things happen, with him routinely at the centre of attacks.

As per FotMob, when he was taken off the pitch, he had more shots (five) than anyone else on the pitch.

Furthermore, he won 75 per cent of his duels on the pitch, while also coming away with an assist.

Although Mukasa's assist was more about the finish from Walker-Peters, his contribution was a deserved reward for his performance.

However, he was one of just a few who came out of this game with any credit.

Why Divine Mukasa could be weeks from career-defining decision away from West Ham

Taty Castellanos absolutely ghosted around vs Southampton

Taty Castellanos' first-half performance against Southampton was incredibly poor.

The Argentinian forward was barely getting into the game and was causing no issues for the Southampton defence.

West Ham may as well have not started a centre-forward at all.

Truthfully, it was bizarre to see him handed the full 90 minutes, and Nuno Espirito Santo must seriously consider dropping him for the next few games.

Castellanos has quality; there is no doubt about that, but he is failing to show it, with this latest display against Southampton further proof.
