West Ham player ratings vs Everton: 4/10 dreadful, Mateus Fernandes really steps up

West Ham managed to earn a draw against Everton on Monday in Nuno Espirito Santo's first game in charge.

Expectations were high at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, despite West Ham's 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace last time out, thanks to Nuno's appointment.

James Ward-Prowse was left at home by Nuno, with supporters grateful for the announcement that he wasn't in the side.

The Hammers conceded their 14th goal of the season, but managed to show improvements, with Jarrod Bowen cancelling out the Toffees' goal.

Plenty of blame for the goal conceded can be placed on the shoulders of Konstantinos Mavropanos, as West Ham Zone rates each player’s performance out of 10.

Mateus Fernandes lively vs Everton

Ward-Prowse's absence from the West Ham squad raised eyebrows after he became a regular under Graham Potter in the opening games.

However, Mateus Fernandes showed his quality from the start against the Toffees as he showed plenty of energy and control.

The Hammers looked completely different in midfield against a strong side, with Soungoutou Magassa and Mateus Fernandes working off each other well.

His midfield partner struggled in his first Premier League outing, but Fernandes made up for that.

It will be interesting to see whether Nuno sticks with the pair in their next outing against Arsenal.

Konstantinos Mavropanos poor for West Ham

A lot has been said about the Hammers' centre-back pairings in recent weeks, having conceded 14 goals this season.

Max Kilman has already played under Nuno with Wolves, but didn't adapt well in the game, as they struggled to defend crosses.

It was Konstantinos Mavropanos who struggled the most in the Hammers' backline, as he lost his man when Michael Keane scored the opener.

The Irons have a reputation for conceding goals from corners this season, with six goals already conceded from set pieces.

However, it was the resultant cross from the corner that ended up finding the head of Keane.

The continued struggles at the back will concern Nuno, especially with a game against set-piece kings Arsenal coming up.
