Southampton have reportedly joined West Ham in the race to sign Nottingham Forest centre-back Joe Worrall.

According to Hampshire Live, the Saints are looking to replace Jannik Vestergaard and have identified the 24-year-old as an option this summer.

West Ham have retained had an interest in the player since June, per a report in The Athletic, and he's expected to cost anything between £10million and £12million.

Worth a punt?

We're unlikely to sign Nikola Milenkovic and Kurt Zouma this summer, so the board could consider taking a punt on the 24-year-old.

He's well within our price range and has shown terrific potential in the Championship.

While he's not been proven at the top level yet, there's nothing that suggests he's not ready to take the step up in his career.

We're looking for defensive reinforcements this summer and Worrall is unlikely to turn down a move to the Premier League, especially for a side that offers him European football.

Southampton, however, appear to be needing him more than we do so they could swoop in with an offer for him.

If we are to get him to the London Stadium, now is the time to initiate negotiations as he could be on his way to St. Mary's in the due course.
