West Ham United losing 2-0 to Crystal Palace on Saturday can't be excused by Graham Potter being new to the job, Jamie O'Hara has said.

Speaking on talkSPORT (18 January, 5:33pm), O'Hara lashed out after Cundy said that Potter's Irons side should be cut "a little bit of slack" despite their dismal performance at the London Stadium.

Potter's side failed to have a single shot on target as Palace scored goals at the start and end of the second half, with O'Hara not in the mood to spare Potter any blame for their insipid display.

He said: “Speaking of terrible results – West Ham got beat at home to Crystal Palace, 2-0. An absolute stinkfest, from the Irons.”

Cundy interjected: “I think you can cut them a little bit of slack; because Potter, he’s come in, there’s a new manager.”

“What?", O'Hara replied. "Do me a favour, new manager!”

West Ham United task looks enormous for Graham Potter

If Potter thought he was heading into a new Premier League job with a squad which needed a few tweaks here and there in order to return to form, the 49-year-old has proven to be sadly mistaken.

Julen Lopetegui's reign certainly ended on a sour note at Manchester City – not that it had started much better – but the level of spending on the squad suggested Potter was inheriting a talented crop.

However, Tim Steidten's summer transfer decisions, which set the Irons back over £120million, are looking more and more baffling by the week, with Potter having very little attacking talent at his disposal.

Long-term injuries to Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug certainly haven't helped his cause early on, but Potter will be wondering how the Hammers managed to come up with so little after spending so much.

The Hammers' lavish summer spending has so far limited their ability to do much-needed surgery on Potter's squad in the winter window, but given the level of that spending, that excuse won't last for long.
