TNT Sports presenter Lynsey Hipgrave was left red-faced by a comment made live on air after the Newcastle United versus West Ham match.

West Ham were on the wrong end of a 4-3 thriller at St James' Park on Saturday (30 March) as they let a 3-1 lead slip late on in the game.

Hipgrave, a Newcastle fan, made a joke about the dramatic nature of the win but the wording left her rather embarassed.

"I started the day on the roof of St James' Park. I didn't think my day could get any better than that," she said in footage shared by TNT Sports on X [31 March]. "I might finish it on my back after a few beers later with my dad."

A laughing Hipgrave, realising the double meaning behind what she had said, added: "I shouldn't have said that. It came out wrong."

West Ham lose thriller against Newcastle United

Hipgrave was clearly in a jovial mood after seeing her Newcastle side somehow snatch a victory from a game they had no right to win.

Full credit to Newcastle for digging deep when the game looked dead and buried, but this was more to do with West Ham's shortcomings.

Some big decisions did not go the Irons' way, which did not help, but David Moyes needs to ask serious questions of his players.

As for Hipgrave's comments, they were simply light-hearted even if some will no doubt complain about what exactly she said.

West Ham thankfully only have a few days to stew on the disappointing defeat before the visit of Tottenham on 2 April.

If ever there was an ideal fixture to produce a response, it is this one.
