West Ham ace Mohammed Kudus joked that Manchester United will have to "start paying taxes" if their players continue to copy his celebration.

Kudus has been an instant hit at London Stadium and already has a trademark celebration that sees him sit on the advertising hoardings.

The Ghana international used that exact celebration when scoring in West Ham's 2-0 win over Man United at London Stadium in December.

However, by coincidence or otherwise, Alejandro Garnacho did the same celebration when his side exacted revenge in a 3-0 win in February.

Asked about that celebration, Kudus told The Guardian [29 March]: "They’re allowed to do it. But soon they will have to start paying taxes."

Explaining the meaning behind his version of the celebration, Kudus said: "I just thought about something out of the box and then some other people followed it up.

"Now there’s a conversation about whose is better. I’ll have to come up with another juice and put more spices in the tin. It’s all about resting after scoring a goal.

“There’s no deeper meaning. I just see it as entertainment, something to make people happy and worth the ticket that they bought. I’m still just having fun in the playground."

The fact Garnacho has not replicated this celebration since the West Ham game suggests it was a dig at Kudus.

Quite why the Man United players were so riled by it is a mystery, but they were quick to ram it down the Irons' throats two months ago.

As Kudus has explained, there is no deep meaning to the celebration. It is simply a bit of fun and a joke that he could do with a rest.

Mohammed Kudus has been a success at West Ham United since joining from Ajax.

West Ham fans have become accustomed to seeing the celebration since his big-money arrival from Ajax in the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old has already scored 12 goals for the Hammers in all competitions, including a couple in the recent 5-0 win over Freiburg.

Long may that goalscoring form in a West Ham shirt continue, and hopefully this celebration is here to stay for a number of years to come.
