Carlos Soler had his best game in a West Ham United shirt against Newcastle on Monday, Guillem Balague has said.

The Spanish journalist shared that Soler's performance in the Irons' 2-0 win against the Magpies at St. James' Park on 25 November reminded him of his best for Valencia and Spain.

He also pointed out that Julen Lopetegui's "puzzle" is becoming clearer and stressed the need for people to be patient with him.

"Carlos Soler had his best game with West Ham against Newcastle", Balague wrote on X [27 November].

"Started in a double pivot/central midfielder with Paqueta, his second start of the season, both wins (Man U the other one).

"He reminded me of the best Soler with Valencia and the national side. 90% accurate passes, touched the ball 63 times, he even had two chances.

"The puzzle is becoming clearer for Lopetegui. Like everything in life, getting a team playing in a different style takes time, it is a process.

"Those that appreciate that will enjoy the journey."

Carlos Soler has best West Ham game v Newcastle

Soler has not been as involved as many expected after arriving at the London Stadium on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, making just three starts across all competitions.

However, the Spain international staked a claim to be a regular starter with his performance against Newcastle on Monday.

The Hammers have notably won both of the Premier League games the 27-year-old has started in and Lopetegui would now be tempted to give an extended run of games in the team.

After Soler excelled in midfield alongside Luis Paqueta, there is no reason for the Spanish tactician to change the double pivot against Arsenal on Saturday [30 November].

Lopetegui, meanwhile, will be a relieved man after the win in Tyneside saw the East London outfit move six points clear of the relegation zone.

It emerged last week that West Ham's games against Newcastle and Arsenal would determine his future at the club [The Guardian] and he appears to have bought himself some more time after Monday's result.
