London Stadium atmosphere slammed ahead of West Ham United draw v Liverpool

Lewis Steele has slammed the atmosphere at the London Stadium leading up to the 2-2 draw between West Ham United and Liverpool on 27 April.

The Hammers came into the contest off the back of a demoralising 5-2 defeat at London neighbours Crystal Palace.

Additionally, there were ticketing issues that left large numbers of West Ham fans stuck outside the stadium until shortly before kick-off.

And Daily Mail reporter Steele felt a lack of enthusiasm at the ground, posting on X: "Have to say this is the flattest pre-match atmosphere of a game I’ve been to this season."

West Ham United are in a slump

It is perhaps understandable that there is not much of a buzz among Hammers supporters at present.

The club's exit from the Europa League at the hands of Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen after a 3-1 aggregate defeat has coincided with a slump in their Premier League form that has seen them slide away from the European places.

The Hammers have mustered just one league victory in their last eight attempts, beating Wolves 2-1 at Molineux on 6 April amid a run of three defeats and four draws.

West Ham now sit eighth in the table but are four points off seventh-placed Newcastle United and have played an extra game, while ninth-placed Chelsea are just a point behind the Irons but have two games in hand.

In addition, fans are keen for the club to move on from head coach David Moyes but have missed out on top target Ruben Amorim and Julen Lopetegui appears set to snub their advances as well.

Overall, it seems the Hammers need plenty of change to bring some joy back to their supporters.
