West Ham United endured the start from hell against Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

The Irons were looking to go top of the Championship at the London Stadium, but it couldn't have started any worse.

Two goals in 11 minutes saw Nuno Espirito Santo scrambling for answers against the Saints.

Kuryu Matsuki opened the scoring within two minutes, shocking the hosts.

Then, it was James Bree who half-volleyed home the second, and there were no complaints about the quality of that strike.

In fact, Kris Boyd had to shut down the entire Sky Sports studio.

West Ham blown away early

Mads Hermansen could only tap away a deep cross, and the defence just watched as Bree took advantage.

Speaking live on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday, Boyd made sure that everybody was quiet while speaking about other subjects.

"Clinton, let it go mate," he said, interupting the entire studio. "This is incredible.

"James Bree, this is unbelievable. The goalkeeper gets a tough on it, it ends up going back to the edge of the box.

"He smashes it on the volley into the roof of the net, what a strike this is, wow."

Nuno Espirito Santo reveals West Ham United golden rule in honest admission about players

West Ham response perfect.. at first

When you go two goals behind, you need to bounce back quickly to change the flow of pressure.

Especially when you're at home, making sure that your fans remain on side, and that's what West Ham did.

Nuno won't accept anything less than full throttle, no matter what is happening within games.

Kyle Walker-Peters may not have helped himself defensively early on, but he cut the defecit in half with a superb strike midway through the first half.

There isn't any better feeling in football than scoring against your former side, especially when you've gone behind early on.

Walker-Peters probably wanted the ground to swallow him whole when the second goal went in, especially from his opposing right-back.

But, getting on the scoresheet himself has kickstarted this comeback as West Ham look to continue their Championship charge.

It didn't last for too long, though, with momentum counting for nothing with that finishing touch finding Southampton again.

Conceding three at home isn't good enough, but doing it in the first 45 minutes alone is unforgivable.

Nuno will not stand for that.
