West Ham United have an 80 per cent of appointing Julen Lopetegui as their new manager, but Bayern Munich aren't out of the picture, according to Jim White.

The Hammers announced in an official statement on Monday (6 May) that they would be parting ways with David Moyes at the end of the Premier League season, with the former Wolves boss the leading candidate to succeed him.

While nothing is set in stone and it remains to be seen when this appointment could be made, talkSPORT host White has revealed that he has been told a move to Bayern Munich can't yet be written off.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday (7 May, 11:20) he said: "It seems as though the man who was once in charge of Wolves, Julen Lopetegui is the man who is in the box seat to take over.

"I heard last night that it was 80 per cent certain it was going to be Lopetegui because Bayern Munich weren't entirely out of the equation yet."

Will West Ham United appoint Julen Lopetegui after David Moyes' exit?

It had seemed nailed on that the former Real Madrid boss would be the man to succeed Moyes in East London, but White's latest update would suggest there is still plenty of time for another twist in the tale.

Lopetegui's appointment will almost certainly divide supporters as the Spaniard isn't seen as the monumental shift away from Moyes-ball that somebody like Ruben Amorim of Xabi Alonso would have been.

But he has had a stellar career and it speaks volumes that he remains of interest to Bayern Munich who are one of Europe's biggest clubs. However, the Hammers cannot let Lopetegui slip from under their fingers at this stage.

Now that an announcement has been made over Moyes' future, contract talks can begin with the former Wolves boss so that this can be signed, sealed and delivered. Otherwise, the Hammers' slack approach could come back to bite them.
