Jarrod Bowen has had praise heaped on him by Ian Wright as the West Ham United captain made an instant impact for England on Sunday.

Bowen came on with 15 minutes to go at Wembley against the Republic of Ireland [17 November] and immediately found the net for his first Three Lions goal following a well-practiced move.

Wright, speaking live on ITV1 [17 November, 19:06], lauded what Bowen brings as a teammate and the routine which went into his strike, the fourth of a 5-0 win on the night.

"[Anthony] Gordon and [Noni] Madueke are good running with it at pace, but Jarrod Bowen, there seems to be a bit more quality when he cuts inside, or finds himself in positions like where they found him [for his goal], on the edge of the box," Wright said.

"The way he pulls off - this is something they've worked on, I believe. It's brilliantly worked; the ball's coming at pace, he's kept it low, got his knee over it and finished it brilliantly."

Jarrod Bowen off the mark for England as West Ham task looms

Bowen clearly enjoyed the moment of finally netting his first goal for England, on his 14th cap at Wembley.

The Hammers skipper will now make the short journey back across London to Rush Green tasked with the objective of lifting his side out of a dismal season so far.

If some players in Julen Lopetegui's squad possessed half the quality and consistency of their talismanic forward teammate, they would be pushing for Europe.

And that is exactly why Bowen is now an increasingly regular player for the Three Lions and will be aiming to stay there.

The Irons have the slim advantage of not returning to Premier League action until next Monday [25 November], as they take on Newcastle United at St James' Park.
