'Hurt' Jarrod Bowen sends personal message to West Ham fans after QPR setback
Jarrod Bowen says he's "sorry" after West Ham United's draw with Queens Park Rangers.
The Hammers are now winless in three games in all competitions after Friday night's controversy-laden clash.
QPR took the lead via the penalty spot after 18 minutes, but it was a clear mistake to award the spot kick by referee Ruebyn Ricardo.
Tomas Soucek not only got to the ball ahead of QPR forward Paul Smyth, but the contact with it was made outside the box.
It was Bowen who came to West Ham's rescue on 70 minutes as he netted the equaliser, but he somewhat became the villain in added time too.
The 29-year-old missed a stoppage time penalty which would've taken the Irons top of the Championship ahead of the weekend's fixtures.
What did Jarrod Bowen write to West Ham fans after QPR?
Bowen very rarely has let West Ham down during his time with the Irons, and it's harsh to say he did so on Friday night.
It was a fantastic double save from QPR goalkeeper Pierce Charles, and the Hammers star hit his penalty true enough towards the keeper's bottom left corner.
But being the captain comes with responsibility, and you have to lead from the front and by example in the best and worst moments.
Bowen has always done that during his tenureship as Hammers skipper, and he reaffirmed why he's so loved at the London Stadium after the game.
Taking to his Instagram story, he penned an apology message to West Ham supporters after the 1-1 draw.
"I'm sorry Hammers," he began. "Sometimes these moments come and you have to face up to them and accept it for what it is.
"It's going to hurt tonight but tomorrow is a new day."
Aside from his missed penalty, how good were Bowen's underlying numbers against QPR?
Where Bowen led all players in West Ham vs QPR
His goal that earned West Ham a point against QPR moved him to five in the Championship and seven in total for 2026-27 so far.
Per FotMob, no player took more touches in the opposition box (11) or shots (six) than Bowen did on Friday night.
Meanwhile, he also completed three dribbles, made five recoveries, won five ground duels and two fouls.
He was, however, inaccurate with all 12 of his cross attempts, put two shots off target and completed just 73 per cent of his passes successfully.
