How Storm Austen could affect West Ham vs Southampton as Met Office issue new London weather warning
Storm Austen could affect West Ham United's Championship showdown against Southampton on Saturday.
The Hammers are set to take on the Saints at the London Stadium this weekend, in what could be a crucial match come the end of the season.
The Irons are up into second place after Divine Mukasa's strike gave them all three points against Swansea City last time round, as they now sit just one point behind the league leaders.
Southampton are dealing with some injury concerns heading into the clash, but despite having started the season on minus four points after the fallout from the Spygate saga, they have started the campaign well.
Nuno Espirito Santo's side already met the Saints in the Carabao Cup in August, beating Tonda Eckert's team 4-1 away from home.
However, there is some important information about Storm Austen that West Ham and Southampton fans need to know ahead of the game.
What Met Office warning means ahead of West Ham vs Southampton
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning that covers London for Friday, which is forecast to continue from 10am until 9pm at the very least, with the UK's first named storm of the year due to arrive.
The warning has a 50 to 75 per cent likelihood, and also comes with a moderate impact.
Fans who will be travelling to the London Stadium could be affected, and it's stated that some bus and train services will "probably" be interfered with, as some journeys may take longer.
Some short-term loss of power and other services is possible.
Supporters are urged to give themselves the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables.
This could give West Ham and Southampton fans a chance to amend travelling plans if necessary.
Is West Ham vs Southampton at risk of postponement?
Many parts of the UK are expected to be hit by Storm Austen on Friday, with the wind moving up on Saturday.
The effects of Storm Austen will also roll over into Sunday for parts of the Northern region, with Sunderland and Leeds United's game at the Stadium of Light expected to be affected.
However, the storm is expected to have passed by Saturday in London, which is good news for those travelling on the day to the London Stadium.
This means that there is almost no threat of West Ham and Southampton's game being postponed.
