Freddie Potts is unsure whether West Ham United will recall him from his loan at Portsmouth in January.

The midfielder has been in impressive form for the Championship side this season, making 18 appearances and being involved in three goals thus far.

One key area that his parent club have struggled in this term is the centre of the park and with the form the 21-year-old finds himself in, it's not difficult to understand why he's being mooted with a London Stadium return.

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent (2 December), the youngster shared whether he thinks the Hammers will recall him in January.

“Who knows? We will find out about that,” he said.

“At the moment I am loving my football here; I am loving playing at home and loving playing in the Championship. “I am really, really enjoying it".

West Ham United should look at bringing Freddie Potts back

The 2024/25 season has been one that Hammers fans will likely want to forget as quickly as possible.

While they may not be involved in the Premier League's relegation battle, it feels like far more should have come from Julen Lopetegui's men.

They currently sit 13th in the Premier League and at the moment, it feels like unless some new faces are brought through the London Stadium doors in January, they're going to be stuck in midtable mediocrity by the end of the campaign.

While many might not think of this as the worst possible outcome, the fact that the Hammers finished ninth in the top flight last term despite having the fourth-worst defence says all you need to know.

Potts would be an ideal addition to Lopetegui's first-team squad and with the future of Guido Rodriguez still up in the air, the 21-year-old could be a cost-effective replacement should the Argentina international depart.

Which will no doubt be music to the ears of Lopetegui and Tim Steidten.
