West Ham are looking at Werden Bremen striker Niclas Fullkrug to replace Gianluca Scamacca after his move to Atalanta, according to ExWHUemployee.

The reliable Hammers source reported on Patreon on Monday (7 August) that Werder could be forced to sell the Germany international due to their financial woes.

The 30-year-old was one of the better players for his country at the 2022 World Cup and despite their group-stage exit, he managed to make the headlines for the right reasons.

Ex wrote, "The club have confirmed that we would like another forward to replace the departed Scamacca. We have a number of targets from France and the Uk lined up. Last night I was told of interest in Niclas Fullkrug of Werder Bremen but haven’t verified it with the usual places as I’m asking a lot of questions at the moment.

"The German side are one of Tim Steidten‘a former clubs and the player is one of their most valuable assets. The club are said to be in financial trouble at the moment so could be forced to sell The player who has a year and a half left on his contract. He is a German international and is 30 years of age."

Can do better

Fullkrug may be a late boomer but the Hammers can certainly do better given the money they've raked in this summer.

Signing two quality midfielders and another top striker has to be the prerequisite for them and unfortunately, the Germany international is not it.

He would've been decent had he been targeted as a backup option but certainly not as the first choice and this does seem to be a Steidten recommendation.

It remains to be seen who Moyes wants as he would've known of Scamacca's exit and thus made contingency plans for it.

There have been links to Arsenal's Folarin Balogun but that's not at an advanced stage yet although things could change now.

Divock Origi has also been linked with a move to the London Stadium and both would be better options than Fullkrug.
