Evan Ferguson's signing was met with a lot of excitement at West Ham, but things havent worked out as many would have expected.

With six games still to be played, West Ham have nothing left to play for, showcasing just how miserable the current campaign has been.

When Julen Lopetegui was replaced by Graham Potter, many had hopes that the Irons would be able to kick on and make something of the season, but things haven't panned out that way.

Instead, West Ham have been forced to rue a lack of firepower in the final third, which has proven costly on many different occasions, and Ferguson has been unable to impact that positively.

Brighton return on cards for Ferguson amid Jonathan David links

Ferguson just hasnt showcased his worth to West Ham since arriving, and it seems inevitable that he will return to Brighton in the summer.

However, that will again leave the Irons short in the striker department, though links to Jonathan David may subdue those concerns.

The Canadian international is set to leave Lille on a free at the end of the season, and West Ham are believed to be the frontrunners for his signature, ahead of the likes of Chelsea and other European clubs.

A striker of his mould has been what the Irons have needed for years now; young, quick and reliable in front of goal, and if his signing can be completed, there will be no future for Ferguson at the London Stadium.

West Ham have a huge summer ahead of them

Potter has the foundations of a team capable of competing for European football, but the final piece of the jigsaw is missing.

Players have underperformed throughout the campaign, and a lack of quality has been bemoaned at the London Stadium in several close encounters.

West Ham need to recruit well this summer, and they simply have no margin for error.
