Fenerbahce are planning on negotiating Edson Alvarez’s option to buy clause, which currently stands at £19.43million.

Alvarez joined Fenerbahce in the summer on loan from West Ham after falling out of Graham Potter’s plans.

As a result, David Sullivan is likely hoping that Fenerbahce trigger the £19.43m buy clause in the loan deal. However, this currently seems unlikely.

Fenerbahce want lower price for Edson Alvarez

According to Sabah on 12 November, Fenerbahce are pleased with Alvarez’s performances to date.

After a tricky start in Turkey, the midfielder has now started the last five matches in the Super Lig, winning all but one.

As a result, Fenerbahce are happy to sign Alvarez at the end of his loan deal, but not for the proposed £19.43m.

  • Alvarez signed for West Ham in 2023 from Ajax
  • However, the midfielder struggled for consistency in his first two seasons
  • As a result, Alvarez was sent out on loan in the summer

Instead, the Turkish side are planning to negotiate the price tag in order to get a better deal.

However, if this goes ahead, Sullivan will be furious. The West Ham owner will have been hoping to get these funds to help bring in better quality players.

West Ham have already promised Nuno Espirito Santo backing in January. Therefore, this extra cash in the summer could have come in handy to balance the books.

Instead, the Hammers could now lose millions, or possibly the deal entirely, if negotiations are not a success.

How good has Alvarez been at Fenerbahce?

According to Fotmob on 12 November, Alvarez has been excellent in Turkey to date.

His defensive stats are particularly impressive, as he looks to return to form before the 2026 World Cup.

Therefore, if Fenerbahce and West Ham cannot negotiate a price, the midfielder could do well back at the London Stadium next season.

However, only time will tell regarding where Alvarez will be playing next season.
