'David Sullivan has no transfer excuse' after brand new West Ham revelation

West Ham owner David Sullivan has no excuse to not buy a striker in the winter transfer window after the Irons made a new bid for Jhon Duran.

Aston Villa rejected the Hammers' latest offer of £57million for the Colombian forward on 20 January and the East Londoners are not expected to return with a second bid. [The Guardian]

However, the fact that the Irons board were willing to sanction the transfer means that they have the money to buy or loan a big-name attacker this month.

Graham Potter's side are in desperate need of fresh impetus up front and a failure to add reinforcements would be criminal and lead to severe pressure on Sullivan, who has taken over from Tim Steidten when it comes to transfers.

West Ham must sign a striker

The Hammers simply have to buy or loan an attacker in the winter transfer window, there is no acceptable reality where they fail to do so.

Niclas Fullkrug has failed to impress after his summer move from Borussia Dortmund and is now out of action for three months.

Top goalscorer Jarrod Bowen is still injured and Michail Antonio is expected to be out for the season with injuries sustained in a car accident on 7 December.

The ownership simply cannot leave Potter without the required personnel, they must ensure that they sign a striker this month.

Pressure is on Sullivan to deliver a number nine for his new manager since he has taken control of transfers and demoted Steidten after his underwhelming summer rebuild.

The club has shown their financial muscle now, they must back their new manager to avoid supporter fury and a dismal second half of the season.
