Former Girona midfielder Aleix Garcia has explained that he chose Bayer Leverkusen over West Ham United because he wants to play in the Champions League.

In an interview Diari de Girona [July 7], Garcia confirmed the Hammers were interested in signing him after his great season with the Spanish club.

However, Leverkusen's strong record in Europe and recent successes made them a better choice for the Spain international.

Despite interest from other clubs, Leverkusen's offer was the clear winner once they got involved, leaving United unable to compete without European football.

The Hammers faced a setback in their transfer plans as Garcia decided to join Bayer Leverkusen instead.

Garcia was drawn to Leverkusen's strong European credentials, with the German club having had an impressive season as they nearly achieved a treble.

The Spanish midfielder, known for his calm play and accurate passing, was also considered by Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur before choosing Leverkusen - although no bids were tabled.

Despite their efforts, Garcia opted for Leverkusen's Champions League opportunity.
