Tomas Soucek reveals when he expects West Ham return after injury layoff

West Ham United could soon be welcoming Tomas Soucek back to their matchday squad.

After a mixed start to the Championship season, it finally feels as if the Hammers are in the groove.

A comeback win over Bolton Wanderers in mid-week made it five unbeaten and three wins on the bounce.

The atmosphere around the London Stadium remains expectant, but is certainly positive right now.

Things could be set to get even better as Soucek eyes a return to the fold.

There's no doubt that 31-year-old has been missed in the early weeks of the campaign.

Everyone associated with the claret and blue outfit loves him and he brings his own unique quality.

It feels as if he's going to be incredibly well-suited to the Championship having scored 21 Premier League goals from the middle of the park in the last three seasons.

As a result, questions continue to surround the Czech star and his injury recovery in E20.

Soucek has now spoken out on exactly that live via talkSPORT on Friday.

He said: " I am back in the team now and I've done lots of time with the team. It is very soon.

"Everybody asks me when is the game. I've had a few go's since the injury and I think it will come very, very soon."

That is obviously a boost for the Irons, but doesn't solve his current contract dilemma at the London Stadium.

What is Soucek's contract situation at West Ham?

The 1995-ace is heading towards the end of his current deal at Rush Green.

As it stands, he will become a free agent at the end of the current campaign when his contract expires in July 2027.

There is no resolution to that right now and was brought up on talkSPORT, but no true answer was given by Soucek.

When asked, he replied: "For myself, I've been here for seven years and I've had some really nice years. Last season was very tough for me and that is the best motivation, to go back to the Premier League.

"I will do this for West Ham and I can go anywhere and be proud of what I have done."

That doesn't sound as if he expects to stick around beyond his existing deal, but may have been a misunderstanding.

Soucek is set to return and fans will be delighted to see him back on the pitch regardless of what his contract says right now.
